Akira laughs a little, resting his chin on a fist]

I heard what some of the regulars were talking about on my way in from the baths. Trust me, a guy in a coord is the least weird thing he's heard about today.

[ He says it almost fondly, unable to stifle the genuine laugh that spills forth from Akira's comment. This is ... new to him. Definitely similar to their texts, but realer. ]

[Akira shrugs, murmuring a thanks when Sojiro drops a cup of (decaf) coffee in front of him.]

I just don't know when to stop talking. You're the interesting one, Goro. I was watching your latest TV appearance on the train ride out.

[ There's the stirrings of a smile and he leans his cheek against the back of his hand, eyes affixed to Akira. ]

That's decidedly unfair, that you knew ahead of time who I was.

[That's a really intense stare there, Goro...but Akira manages to meet it. Mostly. It's amazing what a flimsy barrier like glasses will do for someone's confidence under scrutiny like this.]

The way you talked, the occasional mention of TV reporters, the one time you mentioned working late on a case...and really, how many "Goro Akechi"s can there be in Japan?

[ A lofty chuckle. ]

I hadn't pictured you as the type to indulge in the news, but I suppose I should have known better.

[ It's strange, how he can't exactly look away. Usually people bore him, but... ]

Are you enjoying Tokyo so far?

I only indulge when it's interesting.

[Akira finally looks away to drink his coffee, shrugging.]

It's alright so far. I'm going to be late to class my first week there, but I'll manage.

I do hope you're going to be aiming for top marks.

[Another shrug]

I'm not going to let myself fail or anything, but if I get top marks it's not going to be because I tried to get them. I'll settle for passing this year and seeing where next year finds me.

[Planning ahead goes poorly, as he's learned]

Maybe if I was going to your school, it'd be different.

And why's that?

[ He tilts his head, a bit curious. Why would that make a difference...? ]

I'm afraid it takes more than good grades to impress me, but I'm flattered.

[Akira smiles and adjusts his glasses]

I'm just a suburban delinquent, Goro, there's only so much I can do.

[Joking about the bullshit makes it less bullshit, right? Right. Totally.]

A broke suburban delinquent, so I can't even try to impress you with good food.

A heard part-time jobs are good for delinquents.

[ It's mostly a joke... mostly. He figures it probably isn't a great idea to discuss any more particulars about Akira stepping in to protect that woman. At least, not with Sojiro here. ]

...Ah, by the way, I brought the book with me.

[ Excuse him as he fetches said book out of his shoulder-bag! ]

[Just saying. But his face lights up when Goro mentions the book]

[ ..... he's quiet for a moment.

a delinquent facing rumors for something that no one understood. the labels. the stigma. it's painfully reminiscent of shadows of himself. ]

[Akira just smiles.

The next day is his first day at Shujin. It started out normal, catching the train and calling Goro and running into that vulgar boy--Ryuji--and following them both to school...

Only to find that the school was a freaking castle, things were incredibly fucked up in said castle, there was a talking mascot cat, and there were things called Persona? And Shadows? And Akira, Ryuji, the cat, and Goro all had one?

It had been a lot for Akira to take in and after school that day, he called Goro to see if he wanted to stop by the cafe and figure out what the hell that'd been about. There was something about the way he handled the Shadows and his Persona that made Akira think he knew more about what had happened than he'd let on.]

[ Just that he was quick on his feet....! Surely. That was surely all there was to it.

Goro lazily slumps into one of the booths when he gets to Leblanc, not even pretending to hide how exhausted he is. It's certainly been a long day, and he hadn't imagined anything that transpired today would have happened when he met Akira, when he woke up this morning, when he offered to walk him to school.

It was trouble. One, because of what he was already doing in that world, acting as a puppet of his father, and two, that Akira also had that power. That inevitably he'd get in the way at some point. Maybe there was a way to avoid it. To convince Akira to stop using that world after this. That'd.. that'd be the safest option. ]

That was certainly eventful...

That's a word for it. What even was that? I know the cat explained it, but...this was my first day at school.

Alarming timing, isn't it?

[ a lot of things are alarming right now. ]

I don't think it's something we should be messing with.

[Akira hums, looking at his phone and remembering that strange dream...thing.]

No, I think it's something we need to at least look into. You saw what that coach thinks of the school, Goro. I have to know what's going on there.

[Maybe even fix it.]

That's not right, no matter how you look at it.
