[And wow is his voice a little rough? He opens his eyes and peers at Goro]

Busy day tomorrow.

Yes. Especially if we're going to that world again.

[ a beat. should he, ah, excuse himself and call a cab and go home or - or just go with that whole sofa from earlier. ]

[Akira slowly gets up and starts gathering up the trash from their dinner]

You know where my bed is. Make yourself comfortable, Goro. I'll be up in a second.

[jurisdick]

[ ok so he will head upstairs and head for the sofa. that's safe. he really shouldn't have stayed this long but... here he is, against all odds. ]

Mm.

[ a laugh to himself. ]

[fiftyfour]

[Akira really is done shortly, heading up the stairs with heavy feet. He's suddenly exhausted--so exhausted that he doesn't realize Goro is on the sofa until he tries to flop down onto him.]

...um.

Tired?

[ so amused and his fingers are totally not on along Akira's back. ]

[Totally. He is totally imagining how good that feels, too.]

Yeah. I thought you were taking the bed.

[jurisdick]

I don't want to put you out.

[ his fingers are definitely carding through his hair rythmetically. ]

[fiftyfour]

I told you to take it, though. It's not putting me out if I give permission, right?

[Oh that feels far, far too good. He's starting to melt, pressing closer to Goro.]

[jurisdick]

It's definitely still putting you out.

[ he doesn't stop curling his fingers, rubbing his blunt nails against Akira's scalp. ]

I'll be fine here.

[fiftyfour]

So will I. More than--[a yawn]--fine. Mmm...

[jurisdick]

Go to bed, Akira.

[ he shoves him lightly. ]

Mm. No.

[But he does. Eventually.

The next few months are exhilarating. They're able to make Kamoshida repent, and then Madarame, and then Kaneshiro, and suddenly they're super popular? It's strange, if Akira's honest, but at the same time it's so much fun. He and his friends are making a difference! They're getting back at adults like the asshole who ruined his life, who ruined everyone else's lives, and people are praising them for it. It's amazing.

Their latest theft was of Sojiro's daughter's heart, at her request, and during the whole thing Akira noticed something off about Goro. It was enough to concern him, so the day after they finish up with Futaba, he's calling his best friend.]

[jurisdick]

[ let's just say that the guilt of being used as a puppet - to kill futaba's mother through a mental breakdown - is all coming back to bite him in the ass. he's so thankful that the shadow doesn't recognize him. that futaba is able to bring about a change of her own heart because of the thieves. it's... well, it's a hope. a definite spark.

Hello. Is something wrong, Akira?

I should be asking you that. Are you okay? You seemed sick yesterday after the Palace, and not from the heat.

[jurisdick]

I'm not used to the heat as much as the rest of you, probably. I tend to stay indoors during the summer months.

[ its such a convenient excuse. ]

[fiftyfour]

It was more than heat, Goro. You could hardly look at Futaba.

[jurisdick]

... She was in pain. I imagine it was hard for anyone to look at her.

[fiftyfour]

[Akira sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose]

Goro, you know you can talk to me. You're not telling me something and it's worrying me.

[He doesn't want to find out Goro has a Palace next, okay?]

[jurisdick]

[ well OOPS. ]

Her situation. It's just.... unfortunate. It's not something I was expecting for someone.

[ for someone else. for someone besides him - one he had caused. ]

[He sighs again]

I don't think that's the whole problem, but I know you won't tell me even if I push.

[ it isn't untrue but. ]

Because I've known you for a few years and I've been inside the heads of four different people by this point? And I just have this gut feeling, and my gut feelings aren't wrong.

[ he goes quiet and then finally decides to supply: ]

My Mother also died when I was young.

[fiftyfour]

[There's a moment of stunned silence]
