[ he really doesn't want to hurt akira. it's....better this way, the less he knows. ]

... all right. I'll be at my apartment the rest of the evening.

Okay.

[Thirty minutes go by before there's a knock on the door.]

It's me, Goro.

[And when Goro opens the door, there is Akira with the curry!

And his phone out, app open and facing Goro. "Akechi Goro" and "prison" are in the search bar, and "More Keywords Needed" under that.]

[ ..... his face drops from actual happiness to seeing akira to absolute blankness when he reads the screen.

he can't control the hairline trigger that causes. without warning he angrily reaches out to smack the phone away. ]

[Akira yanks the phone away before Goro can, shoving it in his pocket]

I didn't want to find that out. I pulled my phone out to check the time and that was there.

[He sighs, so upset by all this]

...can I come in? The curry needs reheating.

[ he's panicking, he's actually panicking. this throws so many things into peril. this could harm his entire plan. his first instinct is to say something cruel, to make akira hate him and go away but... but akira would just go into his palace that way, would't he? even if goro could say the cruelest thing imaginable, it still wouldn't stop him, would it...

his lips form a thin line. what does he do.... ]

It must be malfunctioning. Didn't Morgana tell us that Persona Users can't have Palaces?

[Akira will fight for his friends, and that includes Goro. If Goro tried to chase him away, he'd grab the others and go help Goro.]

I haven't had a chance to put the others in and see what happens. Can I come in, Goro? Please?

[ with his head tipped down, mostly so akira can't see the conflicted look on his face. but he trusts akira, deep down he does, and he can't afford to lose him. ]

[Akira steps in and goes straight for the kitchenette to start reheating the curry. Once that's going, he turns to Goro.]

I don't want to have to steal your heart, Goro. Not like this.

[jurisdick]

[ not like this he repeats in his head. his mouth goes dry and he leans uselessly against one of the chairs. ]

My heart is fine, Akira.

[What? He's not going to lie.]

You have a Palace, Goro, and we just learned that it's not always crimes that cause 'em. It's not fine.

[ but if akira goes in his heart, if he tries to fix it, he'll learn about...

his head is still tipped down and he clutches the edge of the chair until his knuckles turn white. ]

I hate my father for what he did to me and my mother. I've never forgiven him. Hate is an ugly emotion that I'm certain can distort a heart.

You never mentioned him before. What the hell did he do to make you hate him this much?

He threw us away. Refused to acknowledge either of us. He's got a tendency for abusing power.

[ dryly ]

Changing his heart is pointless. I'd recommend against it.

[ it'd be too easy a punishment. ]

[ he looks up, with that fake smile, still gripping the chair extremely tightly. ]

[He can tell it's fake, he can tell this is upsetting, but he has to keep pushing just a little bit.]

Selfish people don't stay friends with the delinquent from out of town.

[ a laugh, a bit bitter but it's still one. ]

Selfish people selfishly keep a hold on what makes them happy.

Maybe, which is why I don't want to let you deal with this alone. You're my best friend and I'd be an asshole if I left you alone during all this.

[ still? even now? even after meeting everyone else...? his chest clenches again and he can't help but to sigh. ]

[He turns back to the curry so it won't burn. That would defeat the main purpose of coming here.]
