[CLOSED]

[ he kept his distance.

it was all part of the plan, of course. no matter how deeply intrigued and suspicious he was of the chronically bedhead, be-speckled boy, he refused to get too close. it was bad enough his favorite coffee came with the ramifications of seeing that face. one day he'd show him that he wasn't as witty, as smarmy, as stealthy as he thought himself to be. but for now akechi would bide his time. after all, there was no reason to tip his hands quite yet. he had plenty of time and no direct orders as of yet.

but life was exhausting when he wasn't keeping tabs on the irksome joker. there was work, there were classes, and there was the persistent pestering of one (1) shido. it was a juggling act and its core and akechi just had too many balls in the air.

he'd often fall asleep for a few moments on the subway or between stops on the bus when he didn't bike. biking kept him awake, focused, and ready. it kept him in shape, both in the real-world and otherwise. but sometimes he was too tired, too sore, and just wanted to not think for awhile. public transportation was great for that.

but sometimes he'd miss his stop or fall asleep (embarrassingly) in public. today, it was at the little hole-in-the-wall diner joker had told him about. so here he was. he had originally been in the middle of his calculus, but the numbers soon blurred and his cheek fell into the back of his palm. his eyes had been heavy after all and -- well, an impromptu nap was inevitable.

it really was a bad look, napping at an off-hour at a diner, surrounded by homework. a fan would certainly spot him -- wouldn't they? not like he truly cared what the hell they thought but...

but he was so tired. ]

[ by this point, mishima was pretty sure kurusu wasn't going to be meeting up with him there at the diner tonight. which, you know, was fine! he'd never actually replied to the text to accept the invitation anyway, so it's not like he was standing mishima up or anything! there was probably important phantom thieves stuff going on, and mishima understood better than anyone that that should always come first.

anyway, it's not like he hasn't had plenty to do while he's been here. he's finally almost caught up on the material for next week's exams, and he's banned three alt accounts for that jerk who keeps posting the same gross picture in every thread on his forum. important stuff!

now, though, it's starting to get kind of late, and he thinks it's about time to pack up and head home. all right, he's got his notebook and his textbooks and his pen-- oh damn it, there goes the pen, rolling over into the territory of the next booth.

huh, he's kind of surprised someone else is studying here this late too. ]

Hey, um.

[ ... ]

Sorry, my pen rolled under your table, do you mind if I...?

[ weird, that voice sounds kind of famil--

oh jesus christ.

mishima doesn't immediately know how to react to encountering goro fucking akechi in a casual setting like this, and though what he should probably do is just say "thanks", instead he inexplicably gives a thumbs up before quickly dropping to his knees to duck his head under the table, where he then takes advantage of his temporary partial invisibility to figure this out.

i mean-- he's sure this is fine. akechi seemed pretty out of it, so maybe he was legitimately just here studying, and his presence had nothing to do with the fact that the sole admin of the phantom thieves' website was here, or with the fact that their leader had been maybe potentially planning to come here this evening too (even if he still hadn't answered the invitation). he is still a high school student in spite of everything, so he probably has his own exams to worry about. maybe he didn't even notice mishima was wearing a shujin academy uniform, even though that seems like exactly the kind of detail a detective would take note of.

wow, his shoes are really shiny. how much were those? does he actually get a paycheck from the police department for his consulting work?

--what the hell is he doing, if he doesn't want to look suspicious maybe he should just grab his dumb pen and get out from under this table. ]

Okay, got it!

[ he kind of bumps his head on the edge of the table getting up, but he just winces and pretends it didn't happen. he's had plenty of worse bruises. ]

Thanks.
