[ Using the last energy he has, he clutches his chest bruisingly tight, blunt fingernails dragging through the tattered fabric to scrape at his chest. Around that time, Loki appears, looming over his "master." ]
I'm not anyone's cognition.
[ He's just him: Akechi. He doesn't belong to anyone and he won't be erased. ]
[And at that same time as Loki appears, Prometheus does as well. Futaba can't- won't fight. Her Persona doesn't have the ability, and she doesn't have the heart to really hurt anyone. But as soon as Loki appears, Prometheus' big smile looms down, and its arms extend down, ready to protect Futaba however it can.]
Don't be stupid. You're dead. I saw your signal disappear.
You closed the bulkhead door. There were gunshots, and then the signals for the real Akechi, and Shido's cognitive version, both vanished. I don't think it's hard to figure out what happened.
[... But there's uncertainty now. She isn't sure which Akechi she's talking to. The cognitive existences in Shido's Palace were so close to the originals, they fused with their own Shadow Selves, so... Maybe a cognitive being could believe it was the real thing if infused with enough detail?
She didn't know. But she did know that if anyone deserved a second chance like Akechi seems to have received, it wasn't him.]
[ He glares. This is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. That anger, fiery and temperamental (like a child, Morgana had captured it so well) flares up again. ]
Shut up, shut up, shut up. I told you I am the real Akechi.
[ Despite his own growling, Loki seems rather bored, rather docile. Like he's used to Akechi being dramatic. ]
That's right. A tool, a prisoner, the same difference. It's all trash to him. But you stole his treasure, right? The sick bastard is done for.
[ His breathing is ragged, heavy, and he can't stop the way he's hurting his own skin. ]
As for these... [ His rage flares up again and he uses the small amount of energy he has for his Black Mask outfit to materialize, chains clinking against the cold cobble of the prison. ] What do you think, Oracle?
[... It's that that convinces her. A cognitive version wouldn't have that outfit. Someone's cognition... Shido's cognition of Akechi wouldn't have the will of rebellion.
But this raises so many questions it makes her dizzy. She wants to throw up. She wants to scream. She's terrified of what this means for her, or furious over what it means for him.
But she won't back down. The will of rebellion is strong in her as well, and she is face-to-face with the enemy she hates the most.]
... Fine, then. If you're the real thing, I have one question for you. Did you enjoy what you did?
[ He isn't sure what she's talking about, but the fact that she's accepted him as reality cools his temper for the time-being. Irritably, he shifts so he can sit down firmly on his ass, fingertips coming to play with the chains along his outfit. Accordingly, Loki temporarily disappears. ]
Enjoy what? [ He mutters it, lifting a singular brow at her. ]
Being shot in the face by my father's mental image of myself? It was just great. I would highly recommend it.
[it takes all her self-control to not scream at him that getting killed like what was what he deserved. No, he deserved a more painful, humiliating death. The only thing stopping her is the one thing she wants to tell him. The one thing that, depending on his answer, will hurt him. Will make him suffer as much as he deserves.
Prometheus remains protectively, even with Loki gone.]
[ He blinks. There's a moment where he looks away, as if caught by surprise by the question. His eyes narrow and he knots his fingers tightly in the chain, fingers turning white with the lack of circulation. ]
[... All Futaba will allow herself is one smirk. One cruel, sadistic smirk, the smile of someone who has at long last caught the prey they hate the most in the world.]
You never needed to gain his trust. You never had his trust in the first place, as the bullet in your head should testify to.
But... You know something?
[She laces her fingers behind her back.]
The Phantom Thieves' first victim was Kamoshida. Then, Madarame. They didn't have any connection to Shido, but that was how the Phantom Thieves started. Shido's group may have tricked us into targeting Okumura, but he was still evil enough that we probably would have gone for him anyway. Queen wanted to change her sister's heart, regardless of your suggestion, and we did it without stealing her Treasure. On Shido's ship, we made it through, and only were stopped by you, and the cognitive you.
Shido is responsible for my mother's death. Shido is responsible for getting Joker's record. We would have gone for him in the end anyway.
In other words, all of your murders, everything you did to get revenge? It was all completely pointless. In fact, without the cognitive you, we'd have had an easier time in Shido's Palace. Your revenge against him would have been accomplished better if you just had never gone near him.
The only thing you ever accomplished was killing yourself.
akechi isn't sure he had expected something like that out of the hermit. he watches her, silently, trying not to show how deeply the words cut new wounds into him. like knives. he hadn't just wanted to change shido's heart: he had wanted to see him suffer. to realize that his own son was the cause for his demise. he had wanted him to die painfully. it all would have been worth it, that pain, to atone for his mother.
there's anger still boiling inside of him, but he's too weak, too disorientated by this palace or whatever it is, to be able to act on it. that? and well, since shido is gone what's the fucking point anymore? what's there to even be angry or, to live for? ]
So you murdered my mother instead? Abandoned by your father, with no one to rely on but your mother, a bastard child? And then your mother dies, and you think it's your fault!
No! I want to hear you regret it! I want to hear you suffer, like you've put everyone else through! I want you to feel the weight of everything you've done!
[She's acting rashly now, and she knows it, but she can't make herself stop, spitting out the last bit.]
[ .... he sighs, leaning back on his palms, staring up at her. ]
Those are two very conflicted sentiments. Either you want me to regret it, to suffer just like how I wanted Shido to suffer, or you're just as noble as Joker and you want to "change me." Which is it?

...Did I somehow leave the Metaverse without finding the normal exit...?

Do you regret it?

At least I died trying to fight when my Mother couldn't.

I'm not noble. I was a criminal long before you were. The 'hacker of justice'.
You won't feel regret while you're this distorted.
no subject
Ah, yes, the hacker. How could I forget?
[ He rolls his eyes but doesn't make any other move. ]
Are you sure you want to do that? Won't your beloved leader be disappointed?
