the metallic taste of blood is unmistakable. with a lurch, he shoots forward, right hand covering his chest. there's a pain there he hadn't felt before. what's worse is that his head feels full of nails, rattling around, and he can't stop coughing. as to be expected, nothing comes up but air and saliva and he's practically curling in on himself. once the fit subsides, though, his eyes, dry and blurry, try to make out his surroundings. it doesn't do much good.
he's sitting in the middle of what can only be described as a large prison hall. there are cells lining the walls around him, and he's sitting squarely in the middle of a juncture of hallways. save for some torches affixed to the walls there's not much light and it's a bit of a struggle to make out most shapes.
his hand reaches up again to card through his drenched hair - sweat, blood, probably something else who knows - and he struggles to remember. right, his cognitive self, the wall ....
